January 21, 2016: Today in Class

B1 10th Lit/Comp
  • Class period provided for students to work with groups on Greek Theater Group Presentations (presentations 1/26)
  • Each group will present 1/26, regardless of if a group member is absent, so be sure that you are familiar enough with all parts of the presentation to fill in for an absent group member if needed.
  • Be sure that all group members have access to a digital copy of the presentation.
  • Each student will be graded individually—summative grade—rubric on p. 6 

B3  American Lit
  • Turn in "To Build a Fire" graphic organizer and mini-essay
  • What are appropriate roles for women in society? "The Story of an Hour" and "Lucinda Matlock"
    •  Read "The Story of an Hour" (p. 628-632)
      • Using "Synthesizing Information from Different Sources" graphic organizer, record 2 pieces of cited textual evidence from the story that answers the question "What are appropriate roles for women in society?"
    • Read "Lucinda Matlock" (p. 646)
      • Using "Synthesizing Information from Different Sources" graphic organizer, record 2 pieces of cited textual evidence from the story that answers the question "What are appropriate roles for women in society?"
  • Based on textual evidence from both texts and your own opinions, complete the lower portion of graphic organizer
  •  Homework:
    • USA Test Prep 1/21-28 due 1/28
    • Finish "Synthesizing..." graphic organizer (due Tuesday)
    • Using the graphic organizer as a pre-writing tool, write a mini-essay (three paragraphs). Prompt: In an essay that synthesizes "The Story of an Hour" and "Lucinda Matlock" for support, take a position on what are appropriate roles for women in society.

B4 Creative Writing

  • This week's focus genre: poetry
  • Mentor texts: "The Fish", "Meeting at Night", "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night"
  • Assignment due at end of class today (either hand write or share with me on One Drive):
